BALLYMEADE

crime

hello everyone....

did anyone read the sunday news journal this week? on the front page there was an article about robbery and burglary in  delaware.  we are in an area of higher concentration for this type of crime.

i've had one of my car broken into 3 times and the other car once where money was stolen and insurance information taken.  a false insurance claim was filed shortly thereafter.

my neighbor was mugged and physically and emotionally injured. my other neighbor had belongings stolen from her house.

we have a choice .... sit back and do nothing and allow our friends or neighbors be victims of crime or.... we can be proactive and do something about it.  some discussion needs to occur in our civic association meetings to develop an action plan to address this issue.  i would suggest consulting the police officers in the neighborhood for ideas on prevention including a voluntary community watch.  I would be willing to volunteer some of my time to participate in a community watch.  however, i don't know what is involved in starting a watch nor any laws that we would need to be aware of as a participant.

holiday season is approaching and the frequency of crime is going to pickup.  lets do something about it to limit this in OUR neighborhood.

is anyone interested in developing a community watch or are there any other ideas?

thank you

what development or neighborhood are you talking about???

Attention Ballymeade Residents:  The board of directors of Ballymeade is not aware of any crime in our development.  Nothing has been brought to our attention in this regard.  We think that this discussion posting was made by some one in another development, or in the City of Wilmington perhaps, and that the author posted the notice "county-wide" on all New Castle County Neighborhood Link websites.

It would appear that the board of directors in Ballymeade (if we are talking about the same ballymeade in north wilmington, located off naamans rd) did not completely understand the message that i posted. my intention with the posting was to hopefully put the thought into the board members and the neighborhood to be PROACTIVE about prevention.  the holidays are coming and crime rates typically pick up during that time of year.

Lets make no mistake there has been crime in our neighborhood over the passed several years.  it was even noted in the recent annual letter sent out.  however, no burgleries or robberies have taken place to best of my knowledge in ~ the last year.  i have had my car broken into several times as well as my wifes car.
